Canford Cricket v Budmouth
Canford 212-7 (35 overs, C Ridley 105)
Budmouth 198-3
Canford won by 14 runs
Despite regular loss of wickets, Canford's batsmen maintained a steady scoring rate of 5 an over for the first 30 overs of their innings. Chris Ridley then accelerated hard to complete an excellent hundred as Canford added 62 in their last 5 overs. Canford bowled tidily, with Budmouth only reaching 100 in the 23rd over. At that point, events turned against the home team: Ridley and Hadley left the field through injuries, while Budmouth batsmen Vink (62) and Burfitt (95*) launched an attack that took their score to 163-1 in the 30th over. They added another 30 from 3 of the remaining 5 overs, but the loss of two wickets stalled them just short of their target. The six Canford bowlers all performed well under pressure, as did Tom Darby in his first senior match as captain - a game that illustrated the winning 'habit' that has characterised the 2007 season.
Monday 11th June
Canford's U15 cricket team are SW Regional Champions!
Ysgol Bro Myrddin School 111 (R Graham 5-13)
Canford 113-3 (Darby 50)
Our U15 cricketers have reached the National Semi-Final of the Lord's Taverners Trophy for schools.
Having made the long journey to Carmarthen, Wales, on Sunday afternoon, the team played in glorious sunshine on Monday against Ysgol Bro Myrddin School. Our competitors won the toss and opted to bat first on a wicket that looked as though it was a going to provide plenty of runs. Starting positively, the opposition scored quickly in the first ten overs. However, as the heat and humidity rose, Canford's swing bowling began to cause problems for the opposition. Ben Upton and Robert Graham were especially effective. Support from an outstanding fielding performance allowed Graham to take 5 wickets for just 13 runs. The opposition managed to reach 111 runs from 37 overs.
Over tea the weather began to look ominous. Canford were aware of needing 47 from 10 overs (a competition ruling for bad weather).
Will Connor was unfortunate and Albert Bridges began fending off the opposition with Tom Darby. The latter soon took control of the bowling, batting well with Ben Upton. Having made the game a little more comfortable with a rapidly scored 73, Darby was caught and bowled with Canford needing just 20 more runs. Ben Upton and Jonny Michael steered the team home with the rain just beginning to fall.
The team now face the winners of the South East group winners (between Eton and Royal Grammar School, Guildford) in the National Semi Finals in 2 weeks time.

Cricket v King's Taunton
1st XI Won Canford 232
KT 221
Canford 232 (50 overs - Darby 74, Foulkes 43), *King's Taunton 221 (Darby 3-31) Canford won by 11 runs.
A hard-fought game in which King's Taunton were bowled out with one ball to spare 11 runs short of their target. Foulkes and Darby steadied the Canford innings in a partnership of 63 after the loss of two early wickets, but at 166-6 Canford still looked precarious. Sensible lower-order batting prolonged the innings into the 49th over and set a challenging target. With 104-3 at the half-way stage King's looked on track, but fine economical bowling from the Canford seamers left King's unable to score the 38 needed from the last 5 overs.

Cricket v XL Club
Canford won by three wickets
XL Club 217-5 (40 overs)
Canford 218-7 (Upton 60, Ridley 53)
A good match on a low pitch which favoured slower bowlers on both sides.
Upton and Beaven's first wicket partnership of 60 was the most fluent
passage of the Canford innings. Tom Hayward, on loan to XL Club for the
day, bowled skilfully in the middle overs to push the required run rate up
to over one a ball, but brisk partnerships between Ridley and first
Foulkes and then Wilkinson put Canford into a winning position. Late
wickets meant that victory was clinched with only three balls to spare.

Canford v Sherborne
Canford 1stxi
Canford 171-9 (35 overs, Darby 48, Baylis 44*)
Sherborne 172-4
Canford euphoria at Walker's spectacular 18 from the first over of the day was swiftly deflated as Sherborne struck back with a double-wicket maiden. Their strong performance in the field kept Canford's batsmen in check, though intelligent innings from Darby and, later, Baylis took the visitors to a respectable total. Canford's bowlers needed an early breakthrough if they were to prevent Sherborne scoring at the 5 runs per over requried, and once a vital chance went down in the second over, the hosts progressed to victory with 7 overs and 6 wickets to spare.

U15 Cricket v Cowbridge (Lord Taverner's National Competition for Schools)
Canford's U15s cricket squad have progressed to the quarter finals of the Lord's Taverners National Competition for Schools.
Following journeys to Millfield and Torquay Boys' Grammar School, the U15s travelled to Cowbridge, Wales. On a difficult batting track Canford scored 232-9 from 40 overs. Will Connor scored 67 and Tom Darby 77. Ben Upton played very well for his 38. A batting collapse followed with the side losing 5 wickets for 26 runs. Simon Hanley and Joe Judson batted well at the death taking the team to what appeared to be a good total.
A good start saw Canford restrict Cowbridge and force the run rate above six an over. However, M Lloyd (65) and N Davies (50) batted aggressively and with devastating power to take Cowbridge to 147 -3 off 27 overs. Mistimings by both players led to two catches, from where Canford were able to close the game off, finally bowling out the hosts for 188.
Once again, a good team fielding display complemented good lines of bowling. Graham and Hanley took three wickets each to finish the game.
The team will now face Clifton College or Ysgol Bro Myrddin in the quarter finals.

1stXI Cricket v Bryanston
Bryanston 139 (Darby 4 - 24)
*Canford 140-6 (Wilkinson 44*, Darby 36)
Canford won by 4 wickets
Bryanston won the toss and chose to bat on a day when conditions were offering some assistance to the bowlers. Wickets fell regularly as Canford's seamers maintained a good line, and it was thanks to a last wicket partnership of 25 that the visitors lasted until the 43rd over. Canford's innings was built around a high calibre score of 44 not out by opener Tom Wilkinson. Bryanston bowled well to reduce the home team from 97-2 to 113-5 at tea, but Blackburn's innings of 18 in 4 balls saw them to safety with 19 overs to spare.

Canford: 266-8 (50 overs, Foulkes 78, Wilkinson 71)
King Edward's: 174 (Darby 5-22, Samuels 3-35)
Canford won by 92 runs
Canford were put into bat in seamer-friendly conditions, but openers
Foulkes and Wilkinson played exceptionally well to establish a platform of
141-0 from 35 overs at lunch. Wickets fell as the home team accelerated
in the final 15 overs to reach a score that looked above par in the
conditions. At 125-3 in the 32nd over King Edward's were still capable of
mounting a challenge, but three quick wickets in 20 balls put the target
beyond them. Darby and Samuels did the damage, but were well supported by Baylis and Hayward who conceded less than 3 runs per over while taking one wicket each.

Cricket v Torquay Boys' Grammar School
After beating Millfield in their first round game, the U15s travelled to South Devon Cricket Club where they played Torquay Boys' Grammar School.
On a showery day, Torquay were bowled out for 88 in 27.5 overs. Canford, although initially behind the run rate, accelerated confidently to 89 for 3 wkts in just 18.5 overs. Rob Graham bowled well for his 3 wickets, conceding just 12 runs. Ben Upton grafted a very clever 37 with the bat to add to his two outstanding catches.
The team now enter the last 16 of the Lord's Taverners National competition for schools where they will meet Welsh opposition.

Canford's National 20's squad was put through a demanding but exhilarating
day of 20 over cricket when the school hosted the first round of the
National 20's tournament. Canford finished second in the four-team
league, though still retain a chance of qualifying for the second round on
run-rate. Canford's fielding was excellent throughout, and Baylis, Marsh,
Hayward and Samuels shone with the ball. Ridley, Blackburn and Darby
played successful attacking innings, but the top performance of the day
was from Jack Walker, who scored 150 runs for twice out at well over a run
a ball.

1stxi v Portsmouth Grammar School
Portsmouth GS: 313-9 (44 overs, Darby 5-70)
Canford 201: (Darby 61, Wilkinson 45)
PGS won by 112 runs
Portsmouth Grammar School, whom Canford had bowled out for 80 in 2006, provided much better opposition this year, largely due to an attacking innings of 93 and fast, accurate bowling from a talented S African exchange student. After losing two early wickets Canford stayed in the hunt thanks to a century partnership between Darby and Wilkinson, but their departure to consecutive balls was the start of a 6-wicket collapse for 28 runs as new batsmen struggled to maintain momentum. A stand of 53 for the 9th wicket between Lindsay-Wood and Marsh saw Canford to a respectable total.
Thursday 26th April
Canford v Millfield (Round 1, The Lord Taverners Cricket Colts Trophy)
Canford U15 cricketers beat Millfield School in the first round of The Lord's Taverners Cricket Colts Trophy for Schools. Having qualified for the national stage of this competition by winning the County Finals as U14s, the team performed superbly in the field restricting Millfield to 205 for 6 from 40 overs. Joe Judson was the pick of the bowlers taking 2 wickets for just 25 runs in his 8 overs. A stunning 136 not out from Tom Darby was ably supported by captain Will Connor (45), allowing Canford to reach the required target with twelve overs to spare.
The team will now face either Helston School or Torquay Boys' Grammar School in the next round.

Cricket 1stXI v Dorset & Wayfarers
Dorset Dev XI 228 all out (50 overs), (Kennedy 79, Baylis 4-46, Marsh
3-46, Eales 2-38)
Canford 230-7 (49 overs), (Foulkes 52, Wilkinson 50, Ridley 45*)
Canford won by 3 wickets
A high-quality match with a dramatic finish. Canford's seam attack
reduced Dorset to 74-5 after 20 overs, but a 6th wicket partnership of 74
restored momentum to the visitors' innings. Darby and Marsh helped keep
Dorset to below 5 an over in their last 10 overs, and when Canford's
openers added 95 in 22 overs for the first wicket, the advantage was with
the school. However, Dorset built up pressure through some skilful
bowling, and with wickets falling in pairs in the 120s, 160s and at 200,
26 were needed from the last 5 overs with three wickets in hand. A
thrilling, calculated assault from skipper Chris Ridley saw the school
home with one over to spare.

Cricket v Wimborne CC
Canford 245-8 (30 ov) (Ridley, Foulkes and Darby all retiring at 50)
Wimborne 134-6
Canford won by 111 runs
Foulkes and Ridley put on a century opening partnership in 17 overs,
before Walker and Ridley joined the run-spree on a good batting wicket. A
sensible balance between risk and attack saw Canford to a challenging
total, which Wimborne were unable to chase effectively. Eales was
Canford's best bowler with 1-13 in his 6 overs.
