Mon 10th - Tues 11th July
International Schools Team Racing Championship
Canford put in a respectable performance, finishing tenth overall.
Thu 8th June
Four schools regatta at Portland
1.Sherborne
2.Milton Abbey
3.Canford
4.Bryanston
With
this race falling in the middle of the heaviest week of external exam
all schools had weakened teams. This did not stop the racing from being
very competitive and quality races took place in perfect, steady force
2-3 winds and sunny skies.
Thu 11th May
Sailing v Sherborne
Lost 2-0
In
sunny conditions and light winds the team sailed technically soundly to
produce a good display of team racing. Unfortunately this was not
enough to beat a very competent Sherborne team.
Sat 6th May
Midland Team Racing Championships (Farmoor)
Very
light winds for the whole event, and a shifting direction, meant lots
of delays and frequent course changes. Constant rain also dampened
spirits somewhat.
Canford's A team won all races in their 5 team
league and their semi final, but lost in the single race final (reduced
from normal 2 race final due to time constraints). We were disappointed
not to win the whole event, but overall an encouraging performance.
Thur 27th April
Sailing v Winchester College
This
was the first match of the season against a strong visiting team. Both
the A team and the B team lost in light winds but it was valuable
experience in preparation of the BSDRA Midland Championships. In the A
team, Ed Steele in particular sailed well in both races, while Greg
Miller was caught out tactically a couple of times and suffered
penalties in race two, and Jess Milligan did well to make up for her
two rather nervous starts.
