Canford secure hat-trick title in last hole thriller:
Each March eight of the top golfing schools in the west compete for the 'West of England Public Schools' Golfing Trophy over the great links course at Burnham & Berrow. Canford have won this for the past two years and now they have secured a hat-trick of victories by winning the 2007 tournament.
In the quarterfinals the Canford team beat Sherborne 4-1 with most winning margins being very comfortable. In the semi-final we came up against Cheltenham College. Again the margin of victory was 4-1 but our captain Tim Adams lost in a superb duel with a top quality Cheltenham number 1 player.
The final pitted Canford against Monmouth for the third consecutive year. Both teams were strong throughout. As the match unfolded on a bright crisp morning we found ourselves in the situation of having won two matches, lost two matches and trailing in the last game. It all depended upon Ed Searle who was one down with two holes to play. He won at the short 17th to bring the match all square going down the last. An excellent chip and single putt gave him victory by one shot at the last green and Canford the match.
Having recently won the South of England ISGA tournament and now at Burnham & Berrow, Canford are best in the West and the South!
