Andrew Ekins - Art Lecture and Workshops
London based painter Andrew Ekins returned to Canford in October. He gave a very stimulating lecture to all GCSE and A level pupils about his work. He questioned the nature of painting and what students think when creating work. He challenged their uses of media and the conceptual value of their work.
A group of committed A level pupils then worked with Andrew all weekend producing work linked to their current projects. They attempted to produce work that answered the questions ‘what am I trying to do?’ and ‘how can I use painting processes to show what I am thinking’. All the pupils that attended found these very challenging questions but their resulting thoughts and techniques will steadily filter into and refine their work over the coming year.
