Following the outstanding successes at A level last week, Canford School pupils, yet again, have cause for celebrations with the news that this year's GCSE results see the highest A* pass rate in the School's history.
With 37% of grades at A* and 74% at A*/A and the average grade across all pupils above an A, the overall results are also the highest in Canford's history. Bucking the national trend, which has seen a decline in both standards and the numbers of pupils taking Foreign Languages, Canford pupils obtained a 100% pass at grades A*-B. Results in Maths and Sciences were also excellent with 69% at A*/A. Local pupils Finn Crellin, Garvie Fozard, Lizzie Knott, Tim Tennyson and Emma Thurston each obtained straight A*s in all of their 9 subjects. Katie Burnham attained the outstanding achievement of being in the top five in the country for both Physics and Biology (out of 16,100 and 17,800 AQA candidates). Garvie Fozard accomplished the same outstanding result for Biology.
Headmaster, Mr John Lever, said “It is so hard to succeed across a wide range of subjects and I am very proud of these pupils. At a time when Maths, Sciences and Languages are declining nationally in standard and popularity, I am delighted that these subjects remain so strong at Canford".
