After a 4 year gap Canford has once again won the Under 16 netball title.
Having secured a place in the final by winning the Poole and East Dorset regional playoffs, Canford went into these finals with high expectations but limited preparation given that the major sport for the Christmas term is hockey.
In blustery conditions down at Budmouth College, Canford started well with a hard
fought win 12 - 8 over North Dorset Champions, St Mary's. The team then got into
their stride with a confidence boosting 21 - 1 win over South West Dorset winners,
The Woodrufe School. The following match would prove to be one of the toughest - against Bournemouth winners, Bournemouth School for Girls. Canford's team found themselves down 3 - 4 at half time. However, level-headed defence shut BSG's attacking options down and Canford managed to claw back a win of 7 - 5.
After then winning 9 - 2 against local rivals Queen Elizabeth's School, in their next match the Canford team found themselves in an unfamiliar position: 2 - 6 down at half time against Leweston. In a gritty team performance, Canford managed to haul themselves back into the games thanks to some high percentage shooting and inspired defence, finishing as 6 - 6 draw. For the final game against Talbot Heath, the girls regained their composure and rhythm and pushed ahead for a final win 11 - 3.
Congratulations to all the girls on what was a very hard fought contest and a great result for Canford netball!
