Snowdonia Expedition - April 2008
At the start of the Easter holidays, twenty four 4th form pupils, two sixth formers and three members of staff embarked on the annual CCF trip to Snowdonia. The Snowdonia trip is an adventurous training expedition designed to challenge the pupils in a number of areas whilst developing their own personal organisational skills along with their teamwork and leadership abilities.
Pupils were split into two groups with each group conducting a two-day mountain expedition and wilderness camp and two days of confidence building activities. Expeditions and activities included an ascent of three peaks Tryfan (915m), Glyder Fach (994m) and Glyder Fawr (999m), followed by a descent to a wild campsite in the centre of the Snowdon horseshoe, a 12 km hike to the Ogwen valley, a 40ft rock climb followed by an 80ft abseil into Friog quarry, a slate mine exploration, a 120 ft long zip wire descent into the quarry lake, an obstacle high ropes course and 40ft high pole confidence course.

Despite some challenging weather conditions, which included steep ascents in snow and hail with limited visibility, the group members worked exceedingly well as a team with the stronger pupils helping the less experienced group members on the difficult parts of the track. They were spontaneous, fun and rose to the challenges presented - overall a most enjoyable and rewarding expedition for all involved.
