Politicos: The 2008 American Elections

Dr Anthony J Bennett, author of widely used A2 level text books such as 'American Government & Politics', 'American Politics Updates' and 'The US Presidency', recently delivered an illustrated lecture at the end of January on the 2008 American elections to pupils at Canford.

Dr Bennett is former Head of Politics at Charterhouse, where he is currently the 2nd Master. He is OCR's Principal Examiner in Politics. He is a prolific author on US politics in particular, and a popular lecturer on the 6th form circuit. Plenty of intelligent questions were offered from the floor and all who attended came away with much to think about over the coming weeks.

This was Dr Bennett's 3rd visit to Canford in six years. 'I like coming to talk at Canford' he said. 'The venue is excellent and the pupils always ask interesting and challenging questions.'

Many thanks to all pupils who came along, especially those who are not studying politics but showed such an interest to hear what Dr Bennett had to say. Some 5th formers in attendance have signed up for AS Politics as a result. We look forward to his next visit to Canford.
