Whilst some of the Canford girls were busy playing hockey in Holland, thirteen boys took part in a successful cricket tour to South Africa, winning five out of their seven games.
The boys approached every game with tremendous dedication and learnt lessons quickly. The standard of cricket was exceptionally high and the team were a credit to Canford in their attitude and friendliness. They were quick to adapt to the bouncier wickets and formed a disciplined bowling attack; several batsmen also showed promise with one or two passing the 50 mark. The team played different formats of the game, including Twenty/20, and should look forward to building on their success during the English season. Through shared experience and staying with opposition schools, the team
were given an insight into post-apartheid South Africa. In June, they
can look forward to hosting Crawford La Lucia, Durban, in a return
fixture.
