Kevan and Joy Hopsan workshop

Kevan and Joy returned to Canford in early November to run a series of workshops with GCSE and A level students. Joy has recently developed processes that allow photographs to sink into paper using brush restorer. This subtle technique was mixed with indian ink, bleach, wax, handmade paper and black tissue to create striking and sophisticated pieces. Pupils benefited from Joy’s encouraging advice and all managed to complete a set of highly successful pieces that will form an important part of their coursework.

Kevan linked photoshop sessions with Joy’s mixed media work. Pupils used scans of their pieces and images from their current projects to create heavily layered photoshop images. These images were then used to further develop mixed media pieces back in the studios. This was the first time we combined 2 workshops in this way and it was extremely successful and rewarding for all those involved.
