Breadth of opportunity is at the heart of a Canford education. Pupils are encouraged to get involved in a variety of extra curricular activities in order to extend their learning well beyond the classroom.
Monday afternoons are dedicated to Community Service and Enterprises for pupils from the Fourth Form upwards. These Enterprises initially consist of either the Combined Cadet Force (CCF) or a programme of activities which includes Adventure Training, Community Service, Conservation Work, Cookery and First Aid. Two further weekends are allocated during the year for expeditions and other project work. At the end of the Fifth Form options open up considerably with a full Community Service Programme available which includes voluntary links with the local community, the Northam Project helping inner city children in Southampton and the Canford Partnership which develops sustainable projects with orphanages and groups in India, Kenya and Argentina.
For those interested in Creative Arts there are opportunities in Music, Art and Drama. With dedicated buildings for each of these there are the facilities and space to develop talents in every area. Meanwhile, the sporting can take part in a wide range of different activities to supplement the major games lessons, including sailing, golf, rowing, fencing and Real Tennis. Canford is one of only two schools in the UK which has a Real Tennis court.
