Boo McLaren Marathon
March 2011Running for the Zoe Project
On Saturday 19th March 2011, Oliver ‘Boo’ McLaren (C04) set off around Canford park on the first of what will be 12 marathons in the next 12 months. While plenty people enjoy a casual run around the grounds, especially at this blooming time of year, many questioned why anyone would want to run 14 laps of them. However, Boo and his year group, many of whom were there on Saturday, have a very good reason.
At Christmas 2010, Zoe Anderson (Ma04) died suddenly and accidentally from carbon monoxide poisoning. As well as being a great friend to many in her year, she was described by Tom Cledwyn (C04) as being ‘a central figure’ in bringing people together. Her family have set up a coral-reef conservation charity in her memory, The Zoe Anderson Memorial Fund, and it is for this reason that Boo is running. You can sponsor his attempt here.
Boo ran just over 3 hours 10 minutes for his first marathon at Canford, and was ably supported by friends from the 2004 Leavers and the current Canford cross-country team, who ran the last two laps with him. Well done to everyone who participated and good luck for the next 11 marathons!
