It’s simple to set up, and payments are collected automatically. A regular gift allows us to plan for the future with confidence. Leaving a gift to Canford in your Will is a wonderful way to ensure that the school continues to thrive and provide tremendous opportunities for young people for generations to come.  There are considerable tax benefits in making a gift in this way - bequests can be made free from Inheritance and Capital Gains Tax, so by making such a gift, you could reduce the total tax burden levied on your estate to your family. Gifts of shares, securities or other property benefit particularly well from Canford's charitable status. The value of a gift of shares to Canford can be increased considerably through tax relief. As an alternative to a direct debit, you can donate on a regular basis through payroll giving. This is a means of making a gift directly from your salary before income tax is deducted. As a result you will automatically get tax relief at your top rate of tax, with Canford receiving the gross value. For example, if you are a basic rate taxpayer, a monthly gift of £5 to Canford would effectively only cost you £3.90. Please contact your employer's own payroll department to find out whether they participate in this scheme.

Many employers offer matching gift schemes and will double or even treble donations made by their employees - in other words a gift made to Canford could be increased if an employer was able to contribute the same, or a greater amount. Please contact your employer's HR department to see if they operate a matching gift programme.

Canford may accept gifts of property, art, literature and other articles, particularly for our annual online auction.  Please contact the Development office to discuss this.

Canford is a member of the British Schools & Universities Foundation (BSUF Inc), a non-profit, tax-exempt 501(c) educational, scientific and literary foundation. The mission of BSUF Inc is to promote and support the fundraising efforts of British schools and universities by their US alumni and friends.

All contributions made by United States taxpayers are deductible for Federal income tax purposes. Bequests, legacies and other gifts to BSUF are deductible for Federal estate and gift tax purposes.

To make a gift and take a U.S. income tax deduction, you may make a donation to the British Schools & Universities Foundation (Federal I.D. Number 13-616-1189), a charitable organization approved by the U.S. Internal Revenue Service under Section 501(c)(3) of their Code. You should express ‘a preference for Canford’ in your transmittal letter, not on your cheque which is to be drawn to the order of the British Schools & Universities Foundation. Such preferences are respected by the Foundation but all grants are made at its sole discretion, as required by the I.R.S.
