Bourne Scholars Programme for Gifted and Talented pupils

As part of the ISC Schools Partnership Week we are delighted to highlight our involvement in supporting our sponsor school, The Bourne Academy, in launching their Bourne Scholars Programme this year.

In April 2022 Canford’s sponsor school, The Bourne Academy, launched their Bourne Scholars Programme for Gifted and Talented pupils at the school. As part of our exclusive sponsor relationship, Canford partnered with The Bourne Academy on this valuable initiative alongside Southampton University and Winchester College, the Programme provides academic and extracurricular opportunities that increase the Scholars’ Cultural Capital and puts them on a path to the world’s best universities.

Pupils chosen to be part of the programme were selected following a number of assessment points which demonstrate excellent Character and Commitment to the Academy. The aims of the programme are to provide a highly academic and rigorous curriculum to stretch and challenge the most academically able children whilst following the school’s progressive ASPIRE values to encourage the holistic development of all Scholars.

The Bourne Scholars engage in weekly enriching extracurricular activities and academic tasks, for example, joining us at Canford for joint book and debating clubs, residential stays, Real Tennis, Combined Cadet Force (CCF), horse-riding, rowing, shooting, archery, golf, joint sailing trip and elite sports coaching. The academic curriculum provides Scholars with additional opportunities e.g. studying two languages, in-house mentoring, bespoke tutoring, free musical instrument and further stretch and challenge activities.
