We are delighted to announce that Sixth Form pupil, Robbie, has been chosen as one of 53 athletes to be invited on to British Swimming’s World Class Programme (WCP) for the 2022-23 season, as preparations begin for another World Championship year, and another move closer to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Full details can be found here: https://www.swimming.org/sport/world-class-programme-2022-2023/
Earlier this year, academic and sports scholar Robbie spoke of his journey to success and how he had balanced school life with developing his swimming career:
Canford has always been supportive of my swimming and helped me to balance my academic work with my sport. As a result I have been able to reach my potential in both - I was really pleased with my GCSE results and am enjoying my A Level subjects, while also representing the Swim England U18s Squad for two years in a row. Swimming has helped me develop my leadership skills through my role as club captain, helping at galas and giving motivational team talks. I lead by example. Swimming at a high level takes a lot of courage and nerve, especially in finals against the best swimmers in the country, and I feel very lucky to be in a school which has helped me develop my talents in so many different areas.”
Tony Diprose, Canford’s Director of Sport and Wellbeing said:
We are so proud of Robbie. He has worked consistently hard through the years to reach this stage of his career, displaying all the Canford values we aim for in our pupils – purposeful engagement, humble ambition, courageous attitude and gracious leadership. We wish him the very best of luck!”
