Canford Cadets awarded Silver at Rifles Cup 2024

Canford Cadets awarded Silver at Rifles Cup 2024

Huge congratulations to Canford’s Rifles Cup Team which came away with the second place silver trophy at this year’s National Cadet Cup competition.

The Rifles Cadet Cup is open to all ACF and CCF Cadet Forces that are affiliated to the Rifles. Given that 25% of Army Cadets wear the Rifles Cap badge (approx. 18,000+ Cadets) and there are 48 Rifles CCFs in the country, coming 2nd in this national competition is significant.  The team of nine Canford cadets, led by Sophia S, took part in the two day competition run across the arduous terrain of Sennybridge Training Area, on the northern edge of the Brecon Beacons and home to the Infantry Battle School.

During the event Cadets were put to the test through a series of stances, which included, navigation, section attacks, first aid and mine clearance, with Canford School crowned the CCF national runner-up.

Ben Coward, Head of CCF Army section and a former Army Officer said

Huge congratulations to Fifth and Sixth Form pupils, Sophia S, Imogen W, Leo V, Jack B, Clementine W, Tom W, Eva DN, Jemima C and Bea B-J for their incredible team performance at the Rifles Cup. Canford were winners of the section attack (with several senior Rifles staff commenting on the exceptional leadership of Section Commander Sophia S) and were awarded a well-deserved silver medal overall. All those taking part demonstrated our four Canford values superbly well, displaying Gracious Leadership, Purposeful Engagement, Courageous Attitude and Humble Ambition throughout the competition. We are proud of them all.
