Canford CCF Norway Ski Trip

Canford CCF Norway Ski Trip

During February half-term a group of 32 pupils and three CCF staff from Canford travelled to Norway for a week of cross-country skiing and arctic survival in the Hardanger Vida Region. Highlights of the trip included building and sleeping in a snow hole, a ski tour in the wilds and a night in a mountain hut.  These were all experiences designed to foster skills aligned with Canford’s values of Purposeful Engagement, Humble Ambition, Gracious Leadership and Courageous Attitude, and help the cadets get to know each other, and indeed themselves, a little better.  A fantastic experience and true challenge for our intrepid explorers.

Pupils summed up their experience here,

“This trip made me realise that I can keep going even when I think I can't, and that I am much more capable than I thought I was. In future I will be less nervous to take new opportunities because I am more sure I can do it."

“The trip changed me into thinking more about others and how sometimes I don't know their full personality until you are in a group with them. It also made me realise that when you are doing something really hard to keep persevering and having confidence in yourself. Overall it was a life-changing trip.”

“It has made me realise that I am tougher than I thought I was as I managed to keep my head held high and keep others going. It has shown me that I am also a good leader and someone others can come to if they are struggling. From now on I can use the skills I have gained from this trip and apply them to daily life.”

It gave me the opportunity to make better friendships with people I would not have otherwise. It has also helped me realise how much we can do as people and how to push through at the toughest times.”

“The best bit was being part of a small group and learning to work well together as a team. It was great because I got to form new bonds with people I had previously not interacted with. I also loved the small breaks we had on mountainsides, where we got to see some spectacular views!”

We would like to thank the CCF Staff who accompanied the group, the Ulysses Trust and the Connaught Trust for their support. It really was an epic adventure.
