The Canford Rainbow Run was first held in 2019 and was borne out of a desire to get the whole Canford community together for a fun event and to raise funds to be shared between the Martin Marriott Foundation and one other charity selected by the school.
We had to wait three years before we were able to host another such technicolour event, so were thrilled that on Sunday 8th May over 400 pupils, OCs, parents and prospective pupils lined up to take part in the Rainbow Run 2022 in glorious sunshine. Upper Sixth Pupil Leaders helped to mastermind the logistics, giving them valuable experience in marketing and event management, while other pupils, staff and members of the Friends of Canford School volunteered to help and were stationed around the course as marshalls and ‘colour throwers’. Each participant could run or walk 1, 2 or 3 laps and some did 4 or 5 - not necessarily for the exercise but simply for the fun of finishing completely covered in an array of colours!
Each runner was presented with a medal on crossing the finish line and the opportunity to have their finisher’s photo in front of our sponsor’s board. As the afternoon went on, so did the queue for the ice cream van!
Rowena Gaston, Development Director, commented:
The atmosphere on this Sunday afternoon epitomised what the Canford Community is all about. It was fun, friendly and everyone helped and got involved and in doing so helped to raise £4,500 to be shared between our partner school, The Bourne Academy and the Martin Marriott Foundation for bursaries. We were delighted to welcome into the community over 200 Year 7 prospective pupils and their families hoping to join Canford in September 2023 too. Our thanks are extended to all involved and in particular to Porsche Centre Bournemouth and the Friends of Canford School for all their support.”
Thank you to Sixth Form pupil, Lucas, for creating this fantastic video which has captured the atmosphere on the day perfectly.
