The Canford Community joined together to remember the fallen in whole school services, curriculum study and displays.
Pupils and staff gathered round the War Memorial on Friday 11th November to remember all those who lost their lives in combat. School chaplain Reverend Phil Jack led prayers and Lower Sixth pupil, Cadet L Cpl. Julian played the Last Post and Reveille.
A whole school Remembrance chapel service was held in the Assembly Hall on Remembrance Sunday, 13th November. Mr Kerr Wells, husband of Wimborne House matron Carol, and a veteran of the Falklands conflict, shared powerfully his experiences on HMS Active 40 years ago and why Remembrance is important for him. The Chapel Choir sang a beautiful rendition of ‘Geistliches Lied’ by Brahms. Mr Rood, part of the Canford CCF Naval detachment, and CCF Junior NCO Ed gave readings. After the service, the whole school community gathered on the Sunken Lawn for the Act of Remembrance. Wreaths were laid by the Heads of School, Celia and Oscar, as well as OC president Mrs Sheila Way with Lower Sixth pupil Julian repeating his wonderful trumpet performance. The wreath laying ceremony was watched over by the Colour Party of Canford School CCF. The Colour Party was made up of the Upper Sixth SNCOs, with Sgt Sam and Sgt Hugh having the honour of carrying the Colours and lowering the Colours during the Last Post to respect those Canfordians that lost their lives during the Second World War. It was a moving and poignant occasion.
