Children's Garden Home fundraising update

Children’s Garden Home celebrates reaching target with Canford support

We are thrilled to share the news that, thanks to a lot of hard work through fundraising by ‘Chat Club UK’ including efforts of Canford pupils and staff (£2,790) the overall target of £9,200 has been reached to build and fully equip a new Science Lab. The new facility will provide the students with a safe, fully functional space to learn Science, take their National Exams, and pursue further education / career in a science-related field if they choose.  As a thank you, the students created a special card for all the pupils and staff involved at Canford which all at the school were very touched to receive.

As part of Canford’s Community Action work, we run two projects on a Monday afternoon.  One is Chat Club, involving conversations between Canfordians and children at the Children’s Garden Home to help build CGH students’ confidence and improve their English.  The second is through our business enterprise group with pupils raising funds for the orphanage through various initiatives including a ball event and a Canford food cart.

The latest pupil-led fundraising project is through selling a branded Canford pint glass.

David Allen, Head of Community Action at Canford, said:

It was wonderful to receive the thank you card from the students.  We are thrilled to be involved with Chat Club and the Children’s Garden Home both through weekly meetings with Canfordians and the Children’s Garden Home pupils online in Kenya and also for the fundraising activities that our pupils carry out for the Home and School.

Natalie Hernandez, founder of Chat Club, commented:

“Thanks to everyone’s generosity, we’ve now reached our target of £9,200 to rebuild and equip the lab! We’re working with the Children’s Garden Home and plan to start construction at the end of November.  This building will make such a difference to the lives of the students and support their educational progress.  The children wanted to make a card to thank Canford for all their help and ongoing support as fundraising which is desperately needed at the Children's Garden Home. Thank you so much from us all.”
