After a three year break due to the pandemic, Canfordians were delighted to host the annual Christmas party for the children from City Reach in Southampton once again. The fun filled, festive day enjoyed by the community of Northam and Canford pupils alike is always a memorable occasion. As usual there was great excitement from start to finish, with traditional Christmas lunch in the Great Hall followed by a swim in the pool and party games and tea to finish.
Sixth-former Yutong takes up the story of the day:
Coming together for the Christmas City Reach party has been one of the greatest highlights of this term! Pulling the Christmas crackers, sharing stories, and exchanging smiles and laughter really brightened up the cold Sunday afternoon. With so many Canford pupils helping out this year, we could see the excitement in all the City Reach children. One even said “I love coming to Canford! I get to make friends and always have the best time here.”
After a warm Christmas lunch, we made our way to the sports centre for a competitive but cheerful game of football, various activities and finally the long-awaited splash into the pool. Ending the afternoon with lots of Christmas music and a game of pass the parcels, we sadly had to say our goodbyes. It was an invaluable and unforgettable experience for all of us. I cannot wait to see everyone again for next year’s activities!”
David Allen, Director of Community Action, commented:
Many thanks to everyone involved in giving the Northam children such a special and memorable day. It was great to see all the children at Canford again having a fun afternoon and early Christmas celebration, a lovely example of the way in which our staff and pupils support the local community directly benefiting those less fortunate than we are. We all enjoyed it just as much as they did!”
