On Sunday 2nd March, Canford pupils and staff took part in the annual sponsored walk to raise funds for one of the school’s most established community partnerships, City Reach, now in its 23rd year. City Reach supports the community of Northam, a small neighbourhood near the heart of the city of Southampton which is geographically quite isolated and with few local amenities. An annual programme of visits and activities includes activity weekends at an outdoor education centre, weekend summer camps for 50 youngsters at Canford, theatre visits, trips for the elderly and joint fundraising campaigns. Canford also provides support for the work of the Community Centre and its leaders.
The walk is from Studland to Canford, over 30,000 steps and a distance of 11 miles. It takes in the stunning coastline along the beach to Bournemouth and this year the group were fortunate to walk in the bright Spring sunshine.
The City Reach walk is a firm favourite in the Canford community calendar, with pupils clearly enjoyed getting out and about with friends to explore the stunning local coastline while raising funds for such a good cause, as the feedback below illustrates:
This year’s City Reach sponsored walk was a blast! Despite the cold, the sun was shining as we embarked on our walk from Knoll Beach Studland. The walk was a great opportunity to come together after a busy week, walking for a good cause in a friendly and uplifting atmosphere. My highlight of the day was when we all stopped for lunch by the seafront harbour, tucking into our lovely packed lunches which we all rated highly. The McDonalds stop was also a fan favourite where many of us opted for the exciting McFlurry options as we were blessed with even more sun and warmth as the walk progressed. Although the walk was challenging, this did not affect the chance to catch up with friends and speak to new people. I encourage all Canford pupils to take part in the walk and thank you to Mr Allen for organising it.
