On Thursday 30th June the Canford community gathered for Family Day, the last day of term for all pupils aside from Upper Sixth leavers. The busy programme of events began with a whole school assembly for pupils and staff followed by a spellbinding performance of Peter Pan, Tennis, Cricket v Cygnets on Mountjoy, Chamber Music Concert and drinks to the wonderful sounds of the Jazz Band. Then followed the excitement of the Canford Gallop, the annual inter-house race around the Sunken Lawn! During the afternoon families enjoyed picnics in the grounds and were offered the opportunity to also play golf, watch the Upper Sixth Leavers’ Concert and Real Tennis Exhibition match and see various displays of talented pupil work, including Fifth Form and Upper Sixth work in the DT Department, the Upper Sixth Pre-U Art and Design summer show in the Art School and a selection of writing by pupils in the library.
The following morning Upper Sixth pupils and their families gathered in Wimborne Minster for a special leavers’ service, after which Speech Day and prizegiving was held on the lawns at Canford. Headmaster Ben Vessey and Chair of Governors David Levin spoke of the achievements of the past year, and outgoing Heads of School Aryan and Mimi shared their memories in their Vote of Thanks. Guest speakers were former Heads of School from the Class of 2091/20. Adam, Connie, Emma and Joe were delighted to return to share their experiences since leaving Canford and to wish the 2022 leavers well. There was also wonderful music in the form of solos from two talented leavers, Amanda and Lucy. After the presentation of the prizes, families enjoyed drinks and lunch in the Great Hall.
Next term marks the beginning of our centenary year. It will be a time to reflect on past achievements and also on the changing face of Canford and the education it offers. We look forward to celebrating #Canford100!
