House Art 2025

House Art 2025

This year’s House Art competition brief was to replicate an artwork in baked form - cake, biscuit, bread or a combination of all. The pupils had to make the baked element and taste was judged as well as the overall aesthetic. Each house presented different artwork on Wednesday 19th March in Long Gallery. The fabulous entries were:

Franklin – Nike Air Max 90’s

De Lacy – Faberge Egg

School – Jaws film poster

Monteacute – Chrysler Building

Beaufort – Ford Escort Cabriolet Mk3

Marriotts – Raft of the Medusa

Salisbury – Morag Myerscough Graphic Design Installation

Lancaster – Swiss Cuckoo Clock

Wimborne – Frida Kahlo ‘Self-portrait dedicated to Dr Eloesser’

This year the competition was judged by Artist in Residence, Jeroen Cavents and Deputy Head Pastoral, Nicola Hunter.

Canford’s Head of Art, Nicola Will said,

I am delighted to see pupils having fun with their ideas and interpretations of well-known objects and Artworks this year. It was a fantastic opportunity to use their imagination and work together to create their unique baked Artworks.

Salisbury were this year’s House Art winners with a fantastic representation of Morag Myerscough's Graphic Design installation 'Make Happy'. The nine layers of colourful, tasty sponge cake revealed a cascade of jelly beans and sweets when cut open. It was cleverly designed, carefully iced and there was plenty of involvement across the house, ultimately a deserving winner.

Franklin came second with an excellent sponge cake shaped like a colourful Nike Air Max 90's trainer, a classic! The cake was light (probably the best sponge!) and the shoe carefully constructed into three dimensions. Well made on all counts!

Congratulations to overall winners, Salisbury House, on their success, and to everyone else who took part on their incredible efforts.
