House Music 2023

House Music 2023

Pupils from across all houses and year groups took part in this year’s House Music competition. Day Houses competed for the winning awards in the Music School on Friday 6th October, with the Boarders’ event on Sunday 8th October. Both events welcomed packed audiences, however for those unable to attend, the performances were live streamed for families, staff and pupils to enjoy.

Each House performed a House Song, Contemporary and Classical in repertoires which combined both fun music making in the whole House element with impressive musical talent in the smaller group and individual performances.  As ever, there was an array of different musical styles which makes this event a true celebration of Music at Canford.

The eventual winners were as follows:

Day Houses House Song – Salisbury (Summer Nights from Grease – Warren Casey and Jim Jacobs, arr T. Sparkhall)

Girls’ Boarding House Song – Beaufort (Move Like Jagger by Maroon 5, Christina Aguilera)

Boys’ Boarding House Song – School (Mamma Mia and Dancing Queen, Abba)

Contemporary – Court (One Love, by Bob Marley and The Wailers)

Classical - Salisbury (Miniature Viennese March – Fritz Kreisler)

Overall Winners – Salisbury

David Warwick, former Director of Music at Canford and this year’s adjudicator, was impressed by the hard work put into the music-making and by the very high standards achieved in some of the winning performances.

Many congratulations to the winners and to all the pupils and staff involved in another memorable House Music weekend.
