House Music 2025

House Music 2025

Our House Music Competition involves every pupil in the school and is a hotly anticipated event that takes place just 5 weeks into the school year. It is an opportunity for Houses to showcase their talents and as always, Canfordians stepped up to the challenge providing a varied programme of music with energy and enthusiasm.

The Day House Competition took place in the Music School on Friday 3rd October, and the Boarders’ event on Sunday 5th October. The Music School was a buzzing hive of activity, and the air of anticipation was palpable with both events boasting packed audiences.

Pupils are asked to prepare three categories for their performance; a House Song which involves every pupil, a Contemporary Item and a Classical entry. Last year a new Electronic category was added by Director of Music, William Ings and houses have the option to submit an entry.

Our professional tech team expertly managed the live stream and audio, assisted by pupils Ella, Hector, Ethan, Charlie and Max.

We welcomed Stephen Tanner, former Director of Music at Exeter Cathedral School as our adjudicator. Stephen taught Chris Martin of Coldplay and our own Assistant Director of Music (Academic) Alistair Hardie.

William Ings, Director of Music at Canford, said

This was a wonderful celebration of music and community, and it was clear just how much work had been put in by the pupils to make the whole event such a success. It is so fabulous to see every single child in the school participating and as an entirely pupil-led occasion, the very high standards achieved were impressive. Huge congratulations to everyone!
