The Canford Boat Club celebrated a great year at its annual House Regatta and Dinner on Saturday 11th June.
There was some fierce competition out on the river, and some excellent performances and very close races. The weather was beautiful, with summer bunting, the sounds of the Poole Brass Band and Pimm’s and cream teas in abundance, it was fantastic to see the return of this event, which last took place in 2019.
It was great to see so many rowers out on the water, from Shells to Upper Sixth. With numbers regularly rowing currently over 100, the Boat Club plays a major part in the sporting lives of Canford pupils across the year groups.
Results of the finals were as follows:
Shell girls Coxed quads. de Lacy House bt Lancaster by 1 length.
Shell Boys Coxed quads. School House. Franklin/Court composite bt Salisbury by 2 lengths.
Shell Boys Single Sculls: Oliver bt Raif by 1 length.

Congratulations to de Lacy who took the overall trophy this year having won 5 events, with Lancaster in 2nd place and Wimborne in 3rd place. Very well done to all the rowers who took part, and to the coxes who were kept very busy all afternoon from one crew to another.
Trophies and medals were presented by OC Timothy Stanning B61 and Timothy’s daughter, Heather Stanning MBE, Olympic gold medallist at Rio and London. Heather was also guest of honour and after dinner speaker at the Boat Club Dinner held in the Great Hall that evening where she gave an inspirational talk. Over 130 parents, staff, friends of the Boat Club and pupils gathered to also hear the achievements of the year from Director of Rowing Ian Dryden, and reminiscences from the Boat Club captains Buzz and Archie.
Ian commented:
“It was fantastic to celebrate Canford Rowing once again in person with our annual regatta followed by the traditional dinner in the evening. It was wonderful to see so many families down by the river in the glorious sunshine after two years of cancelled events, and to watch so many rowers enjoying the sport out on the river, whatever their level. My thanks to Timothy Stanning for presenting the awards and to daughter Heather who gave an inspirational speech to the club in the Great Hall. All in all, a truly memorable day for the Boat Club.”
