JAAQ Junior collaboration: Canford leads the way to support Children’s Mental Wellbeing

JAAQ (Just Ask a Question) is an established trusted mental health platform that shares a vast array of mental health and wellbeing content from the perspective of celebrities, specialists and real-life stories. Following the success and growth of JAAQ, Canford is proud to be chosen as one of 10 schools from across the UK to support the development of JAAQ Junior, the new ‘Just Ask a Question’ platform for young people aged 8+ covering valid, helpful information to answer questions and acknowledge issues children from across the UK are experiencing in their daily lives. Their motto is "JAAQ changing the world one question at a time". The aim is to help prevent the onset of mental health problems in children and adolescence.

Melissa Clinton, Canford Head of Wellbeing said:

To be selected as one of the 10 UK schools to help shape the new JAAQ Junior platform is an honour. A range of pupils from across all year groups volunteered to assist JAAQ in filming content for the new JAAQ Junior platform, with the aim to help young people navigate worry and fear. Our pupils were fantastic ambassadors, sharing some mature and impactful answers that other young people will relate to and benefit from. It was a wonderful day of filming, with full crew, giving pupils a first-hand experience of the intricacies of film making. I was in awe of the powerful messages our Canfordians expressed and how empowered they felt being part of this project. Canford values the mental health of all young people in our community and the wider world. We take a preventative mindset, looking to help educate and give our pupils the tools to learn how to manage their mental health and wellbeing, partnering with JAAQ was the perfect alignment and great recognition of the foundations we already have in place in our school community. Thank you to JAAQ for choosing us to be involved in this important initiative. We look forward to seeing JAAQ Junior launch this Autumn.

Our pupils and parents shared their views on the JAAQ Junior launch here:

“Thank you for letting us be part of such an incredible project. The filming was such fun, and we loved doing it together. We really hope that we can help other young people know that there's someone out there to talk to, there's always hope. We really wish people would always choose kindness, be kind to themselves and others.” Pupils, Jossy/Mary

“If talking openly about managing worry, fear and anxiety can help more young people then it is worth speaking out. I wish the me 3 years ago could listen to the me now, so I absolutely wanted to be part of this. I hope others will relate and find some reassurance.” Pupil, Orianna

“The JAAQ filming project and platform sound amazing. I'm all for these sorts of discussions around mental health and emotions. I fully support my children being part of this project, if we could all be more open the build-up of worries and anxiety wouldn’t be what they are now. It’s great to see Canford be part of a culture of change supporting the mental health of young people.” Parent

“My son is absolutely buzzing after the filming. It was a fantastic experience so a big thank you for giving him the opportunity to be included.” Parent
