‘Just So’ - a Canford Drama Musical treat

‘Just So’ - a Canford Drama Musical treat

‘Just So the Musical’ was staged in the Layard Theatre at Canford over 3 nights in the Easter Term and was a treat for all the senses. This elaborate production showcased the considerable talents of Canford pupils both on and off stage.

Before the High and Far-off Times... came the Time of the Very Beginnings, when everything was just so, until Pau Amma the Crab started playing with the ocean. This caused the lands to flood, disrupting the other animals and putting them in danger. While the rest of the animals accept their sad fate, the Elephant's Child embarks on a journey to challenge the disobedient crab.

Based on the classic Kipling tales, the musical holds an important underlying message – that if you are determined you can make a real difference in the world.

The Canford production delighted the packed theatre of parents, pupils and staff with animals galore and an amazing multi-dimensional jungle set full of colour and ambitious lighting. Set to an eclectic and upbeat score, the tales weave into a wondrous tale of personal courage, individuality and friendship.

Director Helen Ryan was delighted with the performances, commenting:

Musicals are just such a joyful thing, especially ones like Just So. Obviously they’re not without their hard work and take a lot of commitment and dedication from everyone involved but, when the end result looks and sounds like this, it’s all worth it. When you finally share it with an audience, it’s really special. I worked with a wonderful cast and crew on this show and it’s one I’ll always look back on very fondly.

Full credit to all involved in what was an absolute joy of a show to watch, so much wit and laughter and excellent performances from all pupils involved.
