National Champions in Rifles Cup and Pringle Trophy success

On the 3rd October nine pupils from the Fifth, Lower Sixth, and Upper Sixth Form travelled to the home of the Royal Marines, in Lympstone Devon to take part in the Pringle Trophy. This two-day, national competition put the team through their paces, taking part in various stands including; room clearance, command tasks, drill, section attacks and contact drills. The team finished 4th out of 16 teams, coming second in the section attack and contact drills stands, as well as finishing in first place in the Fire Control Orders stand. Many congratulations to Ollie L, Freddie J, Natalia P, Will T, Alex E, Tom H, Hector H, Luke P and Leo J.

Following on from the success of the Pringle Trophy Team, eight members of the Army Detachment travelled to Wales on the 10th October to take part in the Rifles Cadet Cup. This national competition was run by 1 RIFLES, a regular infantry Battalion that has supported Canford’s summer camp for the past four years. The competition involved a long patrol with various stands on route, including command tasks, section attacks, first aid and camouflage and concealment. The team won the Section Attack and Kim’s Game stands, and were crowned National Champions overall. Huge congratulations to Eva D N, Matilda A-I, Tom W, Gil S, Jamie T, Peter T, Kangin C, Lucca R on their success!

The competition was a fantastic event, with the pupils suitably stretched and tested - rising to the challenge in a true Canfordian style. The most impressive thing for me was seeing three year groups working so closely together, with teamwork, resilience and leadership all on display.  To bring home the win was the icing on the cake! What a powerful example of Canford’s values - explore, express and excel.
