Canford Drama - One Man Two Guvnors

Audiences were rolling around the Layard aisles as the drama department staged Richard Bean’s hugely entertaining comedy “One Man, Two Guvnors” over three nights. In a change from the annual musical (which will be staged in the Summer Term) a talented cast brought enormous energy to the stage as they battled slapstick, double entendres, audience participation and the difficulties of comic timing and rhythm.

The cast were inspired by a visit from professional actor Daniel Ings during rehearsal.  Daniel played Alan Dangle in the long running West End production of the play and gave the cast unique insight into how to approach performing comedy during a Q&A about his career.  Read more about Daniel's visit

Rikki Jackson, Director of Drama, commented:  "In comedy there is nowhere to hide when on stage but the actors hit every farcical moment with aplomb. The large crew deserve equal praise for their sterling work backstage and audiences left the theatre feeling a little bit better about the world as we move into the dark winter nights."

Sentiments echoed by a reviewer who summed up the view of many:

"The play was a perfect choice for its audience, one of the production’s many merits that together made for a riotously enjoyable evening."
