Opening of the new Canford Health Centre

Opening of the new Canford Health Centre

The School Strategic Plan “To 2023 and Beyond” includes planned improvements to buildings and facilities across the Canford School campus. As a full boarding school, the health and wellbeing support we offer is of the utmost importance to us, and this is reflected in the development of a new Health Centre which opened in September 2023. The new Health Centre building, offers modern facilities integrating physio, counselling, nurse, and doctor treatment areas, re-located to sit centrally on the campus close to the teaching areas and the Manor House.

Catherine Mason, Canford’s Senior Health Centre Nurse, talks in this film (see link below) about the improvements the new facility provides, its many benefits include re-siting the building in the centre of the school to ensure it is easily accessible to all pupils, ground floor facilities, a greater proportion of single en-suite rooms, allowing more flexibility to cater for the sorts of conditions which would require a pupil to stay in overnight, plus the integration of treatment areas in one space. Its tranquil location next to the river, was described by one pupil as feeling like ‘a retreat.’

We are all really thrilled with our new medical centre. It’s more spacious than our previous facility with two large treatment rooms for the nurses and doctors. Pupils now have the use of five en-suite rooms and a small kitchen upstairs. The layout has been thoughtfully planned out, with the counselling room now located on the first floor at the end of a corridor which helps with confidentiality. Our strong, experienced team all share the same ethos, wanting to provide a safe haven for our pupils, this new facility provides us with an amazing space in which to fulfil this.
