Remembrance Services

The Canford Community joined together to remember the fallen in whole school services and in their studies.

Pupils and staff gathered round the War Memorial on Monday 11th November to remember all those who lost their lives in combat. School chaplain Reverend Phil Jack led prayers and Upper Sixth pupil, Tom C played the Last Post and Reveille.

A whole school Remembrance chapel service was held in the Assembly Hall on Remembrance Sunday, 10th November. Retired Royal Navy Commander Rob Dean was our Guest Speaker. The Chapel Choir sang a beautiful rendition of Nunc Dimittis by Geoffrey Burgon and the Chamber Choir sang Jesu Dulcis Memoria by Richard Shephard. The orchestra also recorded a performance of Nimrod from Enigma Variations by Edward Elgar.  Lance Corporals Freddie J and Zoe H from the CCF, gave readings. After the service, the whole school community gathered on the Sunken Lawn for the Act of Remembrance. Wreaths were laid by the Heads of School, Cdt Sgt Lucy V and William V, as well as OC president Mrs Sheila Way with Upper Sixth pupil Tom repeating his wonderful trumpet performance. The wreath laying ceremony was watched over by the Colour Party of Canford School CCF. The Colour Party was made up of the Upper Sixth SNCOs, with Cdt Sgt Jack F and Cdt Sgt Leo V having the honour of carrying the Colours and lowering the Colours during the Last Post to respect those Canfordians that lost their lives during the Second World War. It was a moving and poignant occasion.
