Showcase of pupil creativity and collaboration across the creative arts at Canford

Canford School pupils played a central role in the recently revived Beating of the Land Bounds event, celebrating local heritage, community spirit and the historic connections between local towns.

The event saw the new Mayor of Poole, Councillor Mark Howell, cycle the length of the newly defined town boundaries, with key stops including Upton Country Park, Canford Suspension Bridge and Branksome Dene Chine.

Marking the ceremonial meeting of the Mayors of Poole and Wimborne, the occasion brought together members of the local community for a vibrant celebration of history, culture and the arts. Canford pupils from the Lower Sixth, Year 10 and Year 9 collaborated across multiple creative disciplines to deliver a programme that highlighted both the school’s artistic talent and its longstanding connection to the River Stour and the surrounding area.

The showcase featured performances from a pupil jazz trio, a choral piece, a literary performance and an outdoor art exhibition and workshop, demonstrating the breadth of creativity and teamwork across the school community.

David Neill, Deputy Head Co-curricular at Canford School said:

It was a privilege for our pupils and staff to be involved in such a meaningful community event. The opportunity to collaborate across music, drama, and art allowed pupils to celebrate local heritage in a creative and engaging way. They embraced the occasion with enthusiasm and professionalism, and it was wonderful to see their talents contributing to the renewed spirit of this historic tradition.
