Canford held two days of celebrations to end another successful year at the school, a particularly special one marking Canford’s centenary. On Thursday 29th June, pupils, staff and parents gathered for Family Day where a packed programme of events began with junior and senior assemblies for pupils, parents and staff followed by Tennis, Cricket v Cygnets on Mountjoy, an Upper Sixth Leavers’ Music Concert and drinks on the lawn alongside the excitement of the Canford Gallop! During the afternoon families could also play golf, watch a Real tennis Exhibition match and see various displays of talented pupil work, including GCSE and A Level work in the DT Department, the Upper Sixth Pre-U Art and Design summer show in the Art School and a selection of writing by pupils in the library.
The following day, Upper Sixth families gathered at Wimborne Minster for a special Leavers’ Service, followed by Speech Day and prizegiving for Upper Sixth pupils held at the school. The opening prayer by Reverend Phil Jack was followed by a wonderful saxophone solo by Tom of ‘Respectfully Yours’ by Andy Scott. Headmaster Ben Vessey and Chair of Governors Sir Gary Coward reviewed the past year and spoke of the many Canford achievements. Guest Speaker, actor and OC Stephanie Street Sylvestre who featured in Canford’s centenary film, presented the prizes, Eliana gave a stunning singing performance of ‘Sweeter than Roses’ by Purcell and the outgoing Heads of School Mia, Oscar, Celia and Thomas offered the vote of thanks.
