Ten Tors 2024

Ten Tors 2024

Huge congratulations to all our pupils who took part in this year’s Ten Tors Challenge over the weekend of 10th-12th May. Canford entered four teams, with two Fourth Form groups completing the 35-mile challenge, and two Lower Sixth completing the 45-mile event.

The Ten Tors is attempted by around 2,400 teenagers, navigating routes of 35, 45 or 55 miles over the northern half of Dartmoor. Teams must be self-sufficient, carrying all that they need to complete their route and stay out overnight safely. More information is available at:

 www.tentors.org.uk

After impressive preparation, the groups set off and, although faced with tough conditions due to the warm sunshine making walking across Dartmoor even more challenging, everyone showed incredible resilience, courage and perseverance to get to the finish line. All pupils should be very proud of what they accomplished.

After the event, one pupil commented:

I loved working together as a team, especially when everything fell into place. Coming over the last Tor and seeing the finish made me realise the feeling of team accomplishment.

Whilst Mr Rob Hoey, Head of Adventure wrote:

For all the groups to complete this demanding event is a testament to their teamwork, motivation and sheer grit, demonstrating admirably the core Canford values of courageous attitude, humble ambition, gracious leadership and purposeful engagement. The benefits and lessons from this defining experience will play out in the months and years to come and we’re really proud of all pupils taking part. Thank you also to all of those who supported Canfordians in this year’s Ten Tors event.
