ABRSM Music Success
Many congratulations to Fourth Former Lucy Hancock, who has been awarded the Edie Marr prize in the region from the ABRSM for her Grade 6 flute exam, achieving a high distinction and marks of 139 out of 150.
This success follows excellent music results in the last academic year where the department saw over half of all exams taken awarded distinction or merit, including 3 at ARSM diploma level which is beyond Grade 8 standard.
Christopher Sparkhall, Director of Music, commented:
“Our musicians lead very busy lives at Canford, taking part in over 11,000 music lessons each year, concerts including a Jazz Night, at St John’s Smith Square and at Speech Day, orchestral accompaniment for plays such as the whole school musical Les Misérables, workshops with experts including the Britten Sinfonia alongside numerous informal performances each week for individuals and in ensembles, choirs and orchestras. To have achieved top grades in examinations alongside their many other school academic commitments is the result of talent, dedication and a great deal of hard work and I am delighted that pupils have been so well rewarded.”
