Britten Sinfonia 2019
For the fifth consecutive year, Canford is delighted to welcome members of the Britten Sinfonia to the school for a residency in February 2019.
Britten Sinfonia is one of the world’s most celebrated and pioneering ensembles. The orchestra is acclaimed for its virtuoso musicianship, an inspired approach to concert programming which makes bold, intelligent connections across 400 years of repertoire, and a versatility that is second to none.
As part of the residency, on Thursday 7th February musicians from the Britten Sinfonia will hold a series of workshops and masterclasses for Canford pupils, including opportunities for both performers and composers. On Friday 8th February, pianist Libby Burgess will present a concert to which all members of the public are very welcome. The concert will showcase some of our best pupil musicians performing chamber music, accompanied by Libby, as well as solo piano performances. The concert marks the inauguration of the school’s newly refurbished Steinway piano.
Christopher Sparkhall, Director of Music at Canford, commented: ‘The visit of musicians from Britten Sinfonia is a highlight in our year. I am thrilled that we will enjoy a concert which will feature the very best of our musicians performing alongside Libby, who is a superb pianist’
Tickets are not required for the concert, and admission is free.
