Canford achieves record results in National Senior Maths Challenge

Maths is highly successful and popular at Canford, with 62 pupils taking the subject at A Level and 120 at GCSE last summer with outstanding results:

A-Level – 48.4% - A*, 80.6% - A*/A, 88.7% A*-B

GCSE – 35% -9, 59.2% - 9/8, 81.7% - 9-7

We are delighted to share more positive news in this year’s National Senior Maths Challenge, where our pupils have achieved record results, with twenty-two receiving a Gold Award, an achievement given to only the top 10% of entrants. The National Senior Maths Challenge is organised by the UKMT (United Kingdom Mathematics Trust) and is open to pupils in Years 13 and below. It is generally taken by Sixth Formers, but this year seven Fourth and Fifth Form Canfordians also entered, all achieving Gold Awards. In addition, seven pupils received Silver and four Bronze Awards.

Many congratulations to all pupils involved in the National Senior Maths Challenge, and to Elliot, Lexing, Thomas, Ramon, Tim, Jerry and Joey who took part in the British Maths Olympiad Round 1 this week. The seven pupils took a 3.5 hour paper with six questions to answer. Only the top one hundred pupil performers from the BMO1 are invited to Round 2. We wish them all the very best of luck!
