Many congratulations to the nine Canfordians who have been offered places at Oxford and Cambridge Universities this year.
Canford Drama - Little Shop of Horrors
With the new term seeing a welcome return to near-normality for pupils and staff, we were thrilled to be able to finally stage our postponed Drama production ‘Little Shop of Horrors’ which was performed to sell out audiences over four nights in the Layard Theatre, Wednesday 22nd-Saturday 25th September. After all the hard work in rehearsal both on and off stage over the previous two terms it was wonderful to see the Layard stage, complete with a stunning unique set design, come to life for this production. The whole cast and crew should feel justly proud of this show, and of their determination to see the musical come to fruition, not least OC Zac Arnold who having left in July returned to school to fulfil his part as Audrey2.
Downtown New York was the setting for this well known tale of good versus evil, where Seymour – a florist’s assistant – fights for the survival of mankind against a giant plant with a macabre craving. Throw in a love story and some sadistic dentistry and the stage was set for a journey through the lives of the residents of Skid Row in the cult horror-comedy-rock musical, with music by Alan Menken and book and lyrics by Howard Ashman.
Director of Drama Rikki Jackson commented:
After the frustrations of the postponement of June, it was a real joy to be able to finally perform Little Shop of Horrors at The Layard. The cast and crew worked so hard since the start of term to bring the show back to life and all were thrilled to finally perform again to an enthusiastic and warm audience.”

Rehearsals are now starting in earnest for the next major production, Into the Woods, Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine’s musical, to be performed 8th-11th December.
