Celebrating Music Exam Success
We are celebrating more music excellence this week with the publication of ABRSM exam results taken at the end of the Easter Term.
Twelve examinations ranged from Grade IV to Grade VIII and diploma level on a variety of instruments including piano, euphonium, viola and clarinet. Of particular note was a distinction in the Singing ARSM diploma by Madeleine and a Grade VIII distinction on cello by Eliana. There were also noteworthy performances of Grade VIII with merit for JC and Jerry, with two Shell music scholars getting distinctions in their piano exams.
Christopher Sparkhall, Director of Music, was absolutely delighted for all the pupils:
"That all results save one are at merit or distinction level is an excellent testament to a lot of hard work, from both staff and pupils – not to mention their ability to get on with the job at such a high level despite all that was going on around them at that time with the school moving to remote learning the following day! I am very proud of every musician taking these exams and achieving so highly under such challenging circumstances. Resilience and excellence indeed from our Canfordians."
Canford musicians regularly become members of prestigious music groups beyond school too. The National Youth Choir and National Youth Orchestra offer places to the most talented across the country, and Eliana plans to audition for the Orchestra in September. She also recently took part in the Wessex Youth Orchestra Gala Concert on Sunday 8th March and in a Broadstone music series alongside Canfordians Lukas and Matthew.
