Celebrating the Bard's Birthday with Mash-Up Monologues and Virtual Theatre Trips
Canford’s English department have been celebrating Shakespeare in many innovative ways since the start of term. To mark the birthday of William Shakespeare, thought to be 23rd April, Sixth Form pupils enjoyed a virtual theatre trip to watch Twelfth Night on the National Theatre live stream and department staff performed a comical ‘Shakespeare mash-up monologue’ filmed remotely from their homes. This was submitted to the national movement ‘share your Shakespeare’ on the RSC website.
Head of English, Richard Redwood commented:
“We may be in lockdown but we still love the Bard! Within the department, we have very much enjoyed exploring fun and interesting ways to continue to foster a love of English during this period. There are so many useful resources and event recordings being offered by theatres which we are fortunate to be able to access. They have offered new and innovative dimensions to our teaching and learning.”
