Christmas concert for the Community

Christmas concert for the Community
#CanfordCommunity

After a three year break due to the pandemic, we were thrilled to host over 80 members of the community for an afternoon of festive music and poetry on Monday 5th December.

Each week all Sixth Form pupils take part in Community Action work in the local area, including visits to care homes and specialist centres and they were delighted to welcome to the Long Gallery residents from Magna Care Home, Fernhill Care Home, Aldbury Care Home and The Links Care Home to the school’s Long Gallery.

Alongside traditional carols, there were festive classical pieces performed by Canford musicians under the guidance of Director of Music Christopher Sparkhall and Assistant Director James Aiken, and mince pies and tea were enjoyed by all served by pupils during the interval.

Lovely feedback from the concert included:

“I was lucky to attend your concert for the first time today. I thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience, the singing, recitals, etc etc of the pupils, even the jokes from Mr Aitken the music master.  Refreshments before and during were an added bonus served by the students.  My impression was of a very happy school.  Please convey my sincere thanks to all involved, a wonderful start to Christmas.”

David Allen, Director of Community Action, commented:

“It was so wonderful to see everyone together again at Canford for our annual Christmas community concert.   The smiles on the faces of both the visitors and our own staff and pupils showed just how much we all enjoyed the afternoon, and how much we had all missed being together during Covid. Thank you very much to Alex Boulton, the music department and all the pupils involved in making this such a special afternoon.”
