Cricket - Tom Prest
Tom Prest - Hampshire U15 Cricketer of the Year
Many congratulations to Fifth Form Canfordian Tom Prest, a Hampshire Academy talent who has been named as the county’s Under 15 Cricketer of the Year.
Tom’s playing record to date for Hampshire has included some fine performances. He captained Hampshire to the ECB Under 15 Cup quarter-finals this past summer, scoring almost 450 runs, including centuries against Gloucestershire (109 not out) and Surrey (105). He also took 11 wickets with his off-spin and snapped up seven catches.
His all-round performances earned subsequent selection for the South & West at the Bunbury Festival and contributed with bat and ball as his side won both the 50-over and T20 competitions. Tom also scored a century for South & West Region Under 15s v West Indies Under 15s
In addition, Tom made several England Cricket Board Southern Premier Division appearances for the Academy last summer, top scoring with 81 in a narrow 14-run defeat by runners-up, Burridge in July.
As he develops his skills further, he recently spent ten days at a batting clinic at India’s historic Brabourne Cricket Stadium in Mumbai which Tom found “thoroughly rewarding”.
Tom is currently combining his GCSE studies at Canford with training at the Ageas Bowl. He is pictured with the silver Peter Lewin memorial salver, awarded annually to the top player in the Under 15 junior age group.
Matt Keech, Director of Cricket at Canford, commented:
“Tom is an exceptional cricketing talent and I am delighted that the combination of his innate ability and tremendous hard work has resulted in this recognition by one of the top counties for cricket in the country. As a sports scholar at Canford, he has already made his mark in 1st team cricket, as well as playing both rugby and hockey for the school ‘A’ teams. I look forward to following his progress both at school and county level in the coming years.”
Canford has a strong track record of cricketing success, with former pupil Felix Organ now playing professionally for Hampshire and England. For more information please visit www.canford.com/sport
