Duke of Edinburgh Gold Presentations
Monday 4th December saw 35 members of the Upper Sixth delivering their final presentations to complete the Expedition section of their Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award. Five groups covering destinations from Scotland to Thailand talked of battling the Scottish midge and the Thai mozzy – we were not sure which won! – amongst the other pleasures and challenges experienced.
Diverse aims, success stories and the trials and tribulations were laid bare for next year’s cadre of Gold candidates and a large cohort of parents. Learning about the research on morale and the factors involved, heart rates on long walks and climbs, making a song whilst walking and the uses of jungle flora were amongst the treats we were given and overall the evening was a fantastic success.
Videos, photographs and graphic descriptions of chafing and blisters all served to enlighten those in line for such challenges next year and a fantastic evening, vittled by the famous Canford cream teas, was had by all.
