Canfordian shortlisted for prestigious photography award
Many congratulations to talented photographer Nick Leavesley (Upper Sixth, Wimborne) who has been shortlisted for an award in a prestigious national photography competition.
The Outdoor Photographer of the Year (OPOTY) awards are run by Outdoor Photography magazine and attract entries from amateur and professional photographers from around the world. Nick entered the Young Photographer category, which asked photographers aged 18 or under to shoot landscapes, nature or wildlife subjects that matter most to them, under the title Nature is my world:
Nick produced some stunning photographs taken in Ibiza, and entered two into the competition;
“I always try to show a different perspective of a location. In the first shot I did this by using a long exposure to blur the water and make the sunset feel relaxed and peaceful. I also positioned the rock and bridge in the frame to draw the viewer in to the island. In the second shot I used a drone to get a top down shot of the rock in the first photo, using a polariser to make sure the water was as clear as possible.
I feel very proud that my work has been recognised in this global competition. It’s been a great experience so far – and I’m obviously really excited to see who wins!”
In addition to his photography, Nick is also a talented film maker and has produced both stunning images and a number of excellent films of life at Canford during his time at the school. He clearly has a great future ahead in his field.
