Many congratulations to the nine Canfordians who have been offered places at Oxford and Cambridge Universities this year.
Geography trip to Sicily
Our Fourth and Fifth Form Geographers enjoyed an academic trip to Sicily during half term. Head of Geography, Mrs Alex Boulton, shares an account of their experience here:
“With its rich and diverse topography, Sicily has been a long held destination on the Geography Department bucket list, and we were thrilled to share the experience with 45 Canfordians studying the subject for GCSE over half term.
One of the highlights was definitely climbing Mt Etna and a walk around the cone where we saw some incredible lava flows. Racing down the slopes of loose fragments was certainly an experience and great fun! We also went on a river expedition following a steep gorge carved from basalt columns - unbelievable scenery and a great experience. A lot of pupils achieved things they didn’t think possible during this activity and we were really impressed by their determination.
We saw the island at its best as we were blessed with amazing weather. Copious amounts of gelato and pizza were consumed, a pizza making workshop attended, lava tubes explored, the amphitheatre of Taormina visited, the scenery admired and suitable quantities of tourist souvenirs purchased. All in all it was a very memorable trip and we look forward to returning again in two years’ time.”
