Interview training for Medics, Vets and Dentists
As part of careers preparation for pupils applying for Medicine, Dentistry or Veterinary Medicine, the careers department and Head of Biology have been running a series of mock interview training sessions. On Sunday 3rd November, a mock MMI (Mini Multiple Interview) was held in John O’Gaunt’s, the second time the school has run this event with current and former parents and OCs generously giving up their weekend time to act as interviewers for the 18 pupils from Canford, Poole Grammar and Parkstone Grammar. Each candidate had 7 interviews of 5 minutes each and were given feedback verbally and on paper to help improve their skills.
Mike Doherty, Head of Careers, commented:
“The application and interview process for Medics, Vets and Dentists is very detailed and there is a great deal of competition for places. We hope that this training has helped all those from both Canford and schools in the local area keen to pursue a career in these fields, especially experiencing the unfamiliar format of the MMI with 7 interviews happening concurrently in the same room. We wish them all every success with their applications and potential interviews with universities and colleges. Thank you very much to everyone who came in on a Sunday morning to give their time and valuable insights in support of them.”
Canford has a strong record gaining offers to study in these highly competitive areas, with 118 offers in the past decade representing an 80% success rate. For more information, please visit www.canford.com/Careers
