Many congratulations to the nine Canfordians who have been offered places at Oxford and Cambridge Universities this year.
Peter Pan 2022
The Layard Theatre was brought to life in the final weeks of term with a spectacular production of ‘Peter Pan’, complete with an array of dramatic treats and surprises, not least a feat of engineering by creating on-stage flight action! The new version of the classic children’s story received contemporary treatment in a tightly-knit ensemble production performed over three days in the final week of term, including a matinee for children from local prep schools and from The Bourne Academy, Canford’s sponsor Academy school.
The cast of over 50 pupils, mainly from the junior years, included pirates, wolves, mermaids and the ‘lost boys’ and were supported by a highly skilled stage management and technical team. The set, designed by Lower Sixth pupil Maddie as part of her EPQ project, perfectly captured the essence of the production. Rikki Jackson, Head of Drama and Director of Peter Pan, said:
“The brief I set Maddie was that I wanted to set Peter Pan more in a playground created by the Lost Boys. From this developed the idea of a junkyard. The towers and bridge reflect London Bridge and that Neverland is actually London and the neverland occupants are homeless children.”
Many congratulations to everyone involved in such a memorable production to end the academic year. More photographs available at this link Peter Pan 2022
