'This Canford Life'
Launch of ‘This Canford Life’ podcast
Want to know what it’s really like to be a boarder? Or what the value is of studying Latin? Or find out which staff have hidden talents? Then you need to tune in to ‘This Canford Life’ – Canford’s brand new podcast. Following the highly successful ‘This American Life’ podcast series, ‘This Canford Life’ will feature ‘in conversation’ podcasts to offer an insight into the usual, and sometimes the more unusual, aspects of school life from pupil and staff perspectives.
The podcasts are the brainchild of Lower Sixth pupil leader Hamish Johnson, who will select the topics and panellists and host each broadcast.
The launch podcast coincides with the Boarding Schools’ Association National Boarding Week #iloveboarding running from 17-23 June and celebrating the best of boarding from schools across the country. Giving their views and personal experiences of boarding life at Canford are a matron, teacher/house tutor and three current pupils.
Dr David Neill, Deputy Head Co-curricular, commented:
“When we started our new pupil leader programme last year, one of the aims was to give pupils a platform to develop leadership in a particular area of school life and to put forward ideas which would benefit the wider school community. ‘This Canford Life’ is an excellent example of bringing together pupils and staff, sharing a glimpse of school life from personal perspectives, and we are all looking forward to some lively debates and a varied list of topics in the coming year. Thank you to the staff and pupils who have made this new podcast initiative a reality.”
“I am really excited about this new project. I often listen to podcasts and have thought for a while that they would be a great way to show some different aspects of life at Canford from personal viewpoints which would appeal to parents and pupils alike. I’ve got so many ideas for interesting topics. My biggest challenge is going to be finding the time to cover them all!”
